Best VR Games of 2026
Last updated: October 23, 2026
Part of our Best Of 2026 guide collection.
Ten months in, 2026 is still delivering on its promise as one of the biggest years for VR gaming. TMNT: Empire City brought the turtles to VR, Forefront put 32 players on one battlefield, H3VR capped a decade in Early Access with its 1.0 release over the July 4 weekend, and the tactical shooter GERONIMO arrived on July 10 to the strongest reception any new VR release had all summer. Valve launched the Steam Frame on September 14 at $1,059 with Half-Life: Alyx in the box. October brought Into the Radius 2 to PS VR2 and Bad Inmate to Quest, and November already has two dates on it: PAYDAY: Aces High on the 5th, the H3VR sequel on the 12th. Here are the best VR games of 2026 so far, plus the titles still ahead.
Best new releases of 2026 (so far)
Resident Evil Requiem

Developer: Capcom | Platform: PC (VR mod available) | Released: February 27, 2026
The VR mode is a community PC mod for the Steam version. The PS5 release has no PS VR2 support.
Capcom has no plans for an official VR mode, so this one belongs to the modders, and they were quick. Requiem launched February 27, and within a week praydog's REFramework, the RE Engine framework behind the VR versions of Resident Evil 2, 3, 7 and 8, had it running in a headset, Road to VR reported. It is first-person VR with a gamepad in your hands, not motion controls. Talemann's RE9VR, a separate mod built on top of REFramework, adds those.
What you need: Resident Evil Requiem on Steam, a Windows PC that runs it well, and a PC VR headset working in SteamVR.
- Install SteamVR. REFramework runs through it by default. If your headset has its own OpenXR runtime, you can delete openvr_api.dll after step 3 to use that instead.
- Download two files. From praydog's REFramework nightly builds on GitHub, grab REFramework.zip and VR.zip. Ignore the old date on the release; the builds are current.
- Extract both into the game folder. In Steam, right-click Resident Evil Requiem, choose Manage, then Browse local files, and unzip everything from both files there.
- Start SteamVR, then the game. If the headset stays dark, praydog's VR troubleshooting page covers the usual fixes.
The mod is free and open source, but it needs your own copy of the game, and nothing here touches the PS5 version.
Forefront

Developer: Triangle Factory | Platform: Quest, PC VR, Pico | 1.0: April 23, 2026 | $27.99
Cross-play across Quest, Steam and Pico. The PS VR2 version is listed with no release date.
Thirty-two players, tanks, boats, helicopters, and now jets. Triangle Factory, the studio behind Breachers, took Forefront out of Early Access on April 23, and it is one of the few new VR games this year with a real audience on both Quest and Steam. Steam has it at Very Positive, 84 percent across 2,051 reviews as of October 20, and the Meta store shows 4.5 stars from 4,600 ratings under a Top Seller tag. The studio has shipped a content update every month since launch, most recently the September 17 Fighter Jets & Karst update, which added flyable fighter jets and a new Conquest map. It is multiplayer only, so it is only ever as good as its lobbies. Our launch piece has more on how it plays.
Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes

Developer: Iconik | Publisher: Bandai Namco | Platform: PSVR2, Quest, PC VR | Released: April 24, 2026
Bandai Namco's acclaimed puzzle-platformer franchise made the jump to VR on April 24 with a new standalone story following Dark Six through a deeply unsettling world of outsized threats and intricate puzzles. It is out now on PSVR2, Quest, and PC VR, and the sense of scale and creeping dread carries over from the flat-screen originals.
TMNT: Empire City

Developer: Cortopia Studios | Publisher: Beyond Frames | Platform: Quest, PC VR, Pico | Released: April 30, 2026
The turtles arrived in VR. Empire City is a physics-driven beat ‘em up where you can play as any of the four turtles, with two-handed weapons that actually feel weighty in your grip. The co-op, up to four players, delivers the cartoon energy fans wanted. Cortopia Studios built it, and its October 14 patch added Steam Frame support. Steam has it at Mostly Positive, 77 percent across 119 reviews as of October 23, and Quest players rate it 4.4 stars from 475 ratings. Read our launch-day impressions for our full take.
One More Delve

Developer: ATVR | Platform: Quest, PC VR | Early Access: April 27, 2026 | 1.0: July 23, 2026
The PS VR2 version is announced with no date or price yet.
A largely solo-developed three-player co-op dungeon crawler with real physics and hand-made levels, and the spring's best argument that one developer with the right idea can still carve out a moment in VR. It went into Early Access on Quest and Steam together on April 27 and hit 1.0 on both on July 23. On Quest it holds 3.9 stars from 45 ratings. Steam has been rockier: as of October 23 it sits at Mixed, 70 percent positive across 43 reviews, with the praise going to the combat feel and the complaints going to sluggish body physics and thin late-run replayability. That is a small sample on a game still shipping updates, so treat it as a work in progress rather than a verdict. Our full launch coverage and review has the details.
Into the Radius 2

Developer: CM Immersive | Platform: PC VR, Quest, PS VR2 | 1.0: April 23, 2026 (Steam), August 27 (Quest), October 8 (PS VR2)
The PS VR2 version launched without co-op, which arrives in a later free update.
The closest thing VR has to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. left Early Access on Steam on April 23 with its full 1.0 release, then on Quest on August 27, and reached PS VR2 on October 8 after a two-week certification delay. CM Immersive's survival shooter drops you alone into a surreal anomaly zone where you manually rack your slide, count every round, and maintain your guns by hand. The 1.0 launch added a full story campaign, new weapons, and night vision on top of the two-player co-op it already had, and the June Co-op & Range update raised that to four players on Steam (Quest stays at two). Steam has it at Mostly Positive, 79 percent across 5,960 reviews as of October 23. It is one of the best hardcore VR games most people still have not heard of. Our full release coverage has the breakdown.
Bootstrap Island

Developer: Maru VR | Platform: PC VR, PS VR2 | 1.0: March 12, 2026 (Steam), August 13 (PS VR2) | $24.99
Shipwrecked on a 17th-century tropical island, with no map, no tutorial and nobody coming for you. Maru VR's survival game spent about two years in Early Access before its March 12 1.0, and Steam has it at Very Positive, 82 percent across 1,485 reviews as of October 23. Then it reached PS VR2 on August 13 and went to number three on Sony's August download chart in both the US and Europe, after 19 days on sale. PlayStation Store players rate it 4.62 out of 5 across 307 ratings. It gives you no guidance at all, which is the point, and also why it makes a better second VR game than a first one. Our look at that chart has the full top ten.
Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (H3VR)

Developer: Rust Ltd | Platform: PC VR | Released: 1.0 on July 4 weekend, 2026 (Update 120)
Ten years after entering Early Access at the dawn of consumer VR, H3VR finally shipped its 1.0 over the Fourth of July weekend. It is the definitive firearms sandbox in VR: hundreds of meticulously simulated weapons, the gleefully weird Take and Hold mode, and a decade of free updates from a tiny team. Few games in any medium have been supported this well for this long, and the scoreboard reflects it. As of October 20 it holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam, 97 percent positive across more than 24,000 reviews, which puts it among the best-reviewed VR games on the platform. The sequel, Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades 2, is dated for November 12 on Quest, with Steam to follow in 2027. Our ten-year retrospective covers what the journey represents.
GERONIMO

Developer: Dark Matter Studios | Platform: PC VR (Early Access) | Released: July 10, 2026 | $19.99
The strongest new VR release of the summer, and the one most likely to still be in rotation at Christmas. GERONIMO is a close-quarters tactical shooter in the Ready or Not mould: breach a room, clear it slowly, and get punished hard for moving before your squad is set. It supports solo infiltration or six players together, and the weapon handling and attachment depth are the parts players keep singling out. It sits at Very Positive on Steam, 82 percent positive across 1,396 reviews as of October 20, which is a rare hit rate for a VR shooter this early in its life. Expect rough edges, because the content pipeline is still filling in, but the core loop is already the real thing.
CONVRGENCE

Developer: Monkey-With-a-Bomb | Platform: PC VR | 1.0 released: September 17, 2026 | $24.99
The September release that belongs here. CONVRGENCE is a VR-only, single-player extraction shooter set in the Chernokamensk Anomaly Zone, a procedurally generated exclusion zone full of bandits and artifacts, and it is the work of one developer, who goes by Nik. The 1.0 update on September 17 took it out of Early Access and gave it a fully voiced story, an ending and a new final location, while cutting most of the fetch missions from the main quest line. Steam has it at Very Positive, 88 percent positive across 1,964 reviews as of October 20, most of them from the Early Access run. New difficulty modifiers split the audience neatly: Permadeath wipes your whole playthrough when you die, and Infinite Insurance means you never lose your gear at all.
Star Trek: Infection

Released March 31 on Quest 3 and PC VR, this narrative survival horror is set in the Star Trek universe. You play a Vulcan Starfleet officer aboard the U.S.S. Lumen as the mission collapses into something darker. Reception has been mixed: critics praised the atmosphere and franchise authenticity while flagging finicky controls and a short, roughly six to seven hour runtime, and Steam players agree: Mixed, 66 percent positive across 89 reviews as of October 23. Worth it for Trek fans who can tolerate the rough edges.
Aces of Thunder

Released February 3 on PSVR2 and PC VR, this World War I and II flight combat game focuses on cockpit-only VR gameplay with physics derived from War Thunder. It supports full HOTAS controls, ships with 24 aircraft, and won praise for its physical accuracy and audio while drawing criticism for a steep learning curve. Steam players are split: Mixed, 58 percent positive across 1,213 reviews as of October 20. The September 14 “One Sky for All” update added crossplay between PC and PS5, along with three DLC aircraft.
Virtual Hunter

Released May 27 on PSVR2 and Quest at $24.99 after a stretch on Steam, Korpi Games' realistic hunting sim is the most serious attempt the genre has seen in VR. It is built around a 64 square kilometer open world with solo play or six-player co-op, and it leans hard on each headset's hardware. If you have wanted a patient, tracking-focused hunting game in VR rather than an arcade shooting gallery, this is the one to watch. Our launch coverage breaks down the platform differences.
Out in September
Steam Frame, and the Half-Life: Alyx bundle

Valve launched the Steam Frame on September 14 at $1,059 for 256GB and $1,299 for 1TB, and the launch game turned out to be one VR players already know: every headset includes a copy of Half-Life: Alyx, which runs natively on the headset with no PC, one copy per device. Valve announced no new first-party game alongside it. What it has instead is a catalog that kept growing after launch: Valve's Great on Frame section listed 131 certified titles on launch day and 233 by October 23, with Gorilla Tag, GORN 2 and TMNT: Empire City among the additions. Purchase emails have gone out in waves since September 18, and on October 9 Valve gave reservation holders a window: an order email either by December or in 2027. The waitlist still has no date. Our guide to what runs on it covers all three ways to play.
Detective VR

Out September 9 on Steam for $14.99 and on PS VR2 the same day, after more than a year and a half as a Quest exclusive. Studio Chipo y Juan and VALEM Studio built a first-person investigation game for VR and mixed reality: examine a scene, bag evidence, interrogate suspects and assemble the case yourself. It was designed around your own living room, which is an open question on headsets with weaker passthrough.
Gunman Contracts: Stand Alone

Out September 10 in Early Access on Steam for $24.99. ANB_Seth's free Half-Life: Alyx mod drew more than 300,000 subscribers before it became a paid standalone game, and the developer set the September 10 date on its own, without waiting for Valve. Six weeks in it holds a Mostly Positive rating, 78 percent across 1,745 Steam reviews. A tight, physics-heavy action shooter that plays like a John Wick set piece.
Sol Protocol

In Early Access on Quest 3 and 3S since September 19 for $11.99, with the Steam version dated for November 11, with a free Next Fest demo through October 26. Singular Perception's three-player co-op space roguelike puts you in the pilot, gunner or engineer seat of the same ship, and the ship only survives if everyone does their job. The bots meant to fill empty seats are not in yet, so bring two friends.
Out in October
Bad Inmate

Out October 15 in Early Access on Quest for $14.99, and it holds 4.8 stars from 581 ratings. The PS VR2 version that was meant to launch alongside it has no date now, and the Steam page still says Coming Soon. HyperVR Games' physics-driven prison escape sandbox has you turn junk into tools and brawl or bargain your way through a yard full of inmates. Our August look at it has the details.
Spymaster

Out of Early Access October 15 on Quest and SteamVR for $19.99, from InnerspaceVR, the studio behind A Fisherman's Tale. Each mission gives you three agents and a gadget called the C.A.S.S.E.T.T.E. that records, rewinds and syncs their moves, so you play one agent, rewind, and play the next alongside the recording until the three of them pull the job off together. The 1.0 release added four missions, the last a finale that puts all three operatives in the field together, plus a full story mode. Every one of its 15 Steam reviews so far is positive, which is a small sample and a good sign.
Still ahead in 2026
Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades 2

Dated at Meta Connect for November 12 on Quest 3 and 3S. The twist for the PC players who made the first game a legend: the Steam version follows in the second half of 2027, once its modding framework is ready, UploadVR reports. RUST LTD.'s sequel, published with Creature, is built around extraction runs through a procedurally generated megastructure called the Facility. The original hit 1.0 in July after a decade in Early Access.
PAYDAY: Aces High

Out November 5 for $24.99 on Quest, SteamVR and Steam Frame, and you can play two heists of it this week. Fast Travel Games set the date on October 19 and opened its final playtest the same day, through October 26: on Steam it is the free Next Fest demo, and on Quest 3 and 3S it is an open playtest build. Unlike the closed test in August, nobody needs a slot. Four-player co-op heists, with the Flowtrust Bank and the Cosmopolitan Museum of Art in the demo.
What to watch for
Circle November. PAYDAY: Aces High lands on the 5th, Sol Protocol reaches Steam on the 11th, and H3VR2 reaches Quest on the 12th. Before that, Dark Trip, a gothic horror escape room from iWorlds that plays flat or in VR, is due on Steam on October 29, just in time for Halloween. Every date is tracked on our VR release date tracker. Streets of Miami VR, once dated August 28, still shows Coming Soon on Steam.
On hardware, the Steam Frame queue finally has a shape: reservation holders get an order email by December or in 2027, and Great on Frame has grown from 131 certified games on launch day to 233. Meta Connect on September 23 showed no new Quest and put Meta VR Glasses on the calendar for spring 2027 instead, with more than 75 games playable by hand at launch. PS VR2 owners have the opposite problem. The games keep coming, but new headsets have been out of stock in the US since mid September, and Sony's own US store no longer lists one. And Valve put the Index into a sunset sale on October 14. Our first-half standouts roundup recaps the six months that got us here.
We'll keep this page updated as new titles are announced and released throughout 2026.
